Announcing Quality Click Pricing

Starting September 1st 2009 for all new publishers and October 1st 2009 for all existing publishers, eBay Partner Network will start paying for clicks sent to eBay sites. The price paid will depend on the traffic’s quality — the more incremental revenue the traffic generates for eBay, the higher the amount paid per click. Learn more.

Driving Quality Traffic to eBay

Back to Overview

There are many different ways for publishers to drive traffic to eBay, ranging from simple text links to integrating listings using Custom Banner. To enable us to better compensate high quality traffic and to provide useful new metrics to help you to determine the effectiveness of your advertising, two new features have been added to the eBay Partner Network: enhanced click filtering and impression pixel tracking.

Click Filters

Additional click filters will be introduced in July 2009 to more accurately account for the clicks delivered to eBay. We use best industry practices in our click filtering techniques. They are designed to exclude clicks from automated crawlers and to prevent invalid clicks, (for example, double clicks from the same user), so that these clicks do not bring down your EPC amount. Invalid clicks typically do not have any transactions associated with them, therefore previously filtering these clicks will generally not impact our assessment of incremental value. Learn more

Impression Pixels

The impression pixel is a short HTML code snippet, which enables click through rate (CTR) and effective earnings per thousand impressions (eCPM) to be calculated. These metrics will help both publishers and eBay Partner Network to optimize ad placements and creatives and will also help in our evaluation of the quality of the clicks.

All our banners and widgets already have an impression pixel embedded, but now all new cut-and-paste links generated through the Link Generator will have the pixel automatically embedded as well. However, existing links created through Link Generator prior to May 1st 2009 will not be updated automatically to include the impression pixel. We have developed a tool for you to create impression pixels, which is available in the eBay Partner Network interface in the Tools tab.
Learn more about creating impression pixels.

Although publishers are not required to add an impression pixel to their links, it is strongly encouraged, as embedding impression pixels into ads will help publishers better judge the effectiveness of their advertising. In specific cases, we may require a publisher to put an impression pixel on their site. In these cases, we will contact a publisher individually with further explanation and instructions.
